Today’s property market is somewhat volatile. But perhaps less so than the global economic crisis of the last decade. These days, lenders are starting to give home loans to buyers, and property owners can sell their homes for better prices.
If you are planning on selling your home soon, you will doubtless be wondering how to get the best price for it. After all, you want to make as much money as possible from the sale of your home!
In this handy guide, I will share with you some practical tips to help you get a good price for your home.
Get rid of the junk
I am going to assume that you will still be living in your home when you put it up for sale. Prospective buyers will look around your property so that they can determine if it’s right for them.
The trouble is, a lot of buyers will find it hard to imagine living in your home if there are piles of boxes and stacks of newspapers in every room! The first thing you need to do is ditch the junk from your home!
The best way to do that is to separate things you don’t want into two piles. One pile will be things that you want to throw away, and the other will be things that you can sell. If you’ve got a lot of trash, have someone come and take it away for you.
Once you have cleared anything you don’t want in your home, you will get left with items you want to keep.
I recommend going minimalistic, and keeping only the bare essentials in your home. Put everything you don’t use on a regular basis in a storage unit. There are two reasons why this is a good idea:
- You won’t have much stuff to move once you sell your home;
- It shows buyers that you are ready to move, and won’t cause any disruptions in the “chain”!
Do some painting
For a quick sale, I recommend painting the walls in your home a neutral color, like white. In fact, white is the cheapest paint color you can buy and makes even the smallest of rooms look bigger!
If any exterior parts of your home need painting, such as doors and wooden slats, be sure to paint them too. For the time and money you spend doing this job, the reward will be a few grand more on the value of your property.
Maintain your garden
Does your garden look like a jungle? If so, it’s time to tame the wilderness that is your garden and make it look more respectable.
Let’s say that you are going to buy a house. You do a search for a country estate in Alton. The rooms of the property might look awesome, but the unmaintained garden will put you off buying it. Especially if the garden is several acres long!
It doesn’t matter whether you do the work or you hire a gardener to do it for you. Make sure it’s done before you put your home up for sale.
Good luck with your house sale!
